Prime Railway Services was established in 1989 under the name Prime Steel Inc, a family owned operation. Based in Oshawa, Ontario, Prime initially offered general metal fabrication services to various industries before shifting its focus more specifically to the railway sector. In 2008, the family sold the company to Global Railway Industries. As part of this transition, operations were relocated to Lachine, Quebec, within the premises of its sister company, CAD Railway Industries. Today, Prime operates as a division of CAD and is a subsidiary of Sojitz Corporation.
